You can trust Jesus
Do you have anyone who you can really trust – no matter what?
Most of us would like to have such a friend.
Maybe you already have a friend like that. A friend that you can always go to and tell everything. A friend that
I think all of us would like to have such an understanding, overbearing friend.
But what about yourself – are you such a friend? A friend that others can always trust, no matter what?
I’m sorry to say that I’m not myself such a friend. I must admit that if I’m going to be honest. I’ve sinned so many times against other people and God. So, I’m guilty of not always being trustworthy and a good friend – though I know that I really should be. I’m not the kind of friend that I want others to be to me. I’m not as trustworthy as I hope that other people will be.
But Jesus is such a friend. You can always trust him, and he will never forsake or leave you, unless you don’t want to be together with him. Where we have failed, he hasn’t. Where we have betrayed other people, he has been faithful. When we have sinned, he has been holy and righteous.
God also wants to be our friend. He wants to be your friend. How do I know that?
Because he has created you. You did not come from yourself. No, he created you.
And most important of all, he gave himself, in his Son, for you. Jesus gave his life – not for perfect people, but for sinners. That is, people just like me and you. People who have sinned again and again.
Jesus is the friend who never fails. You can always trust him – not to fulfill all your wishes, but to do what he has promised. You can always come to him, no matter what you have done. But you have to be honest when you come to him. You have to admit when you have not been trustworthy, and when you have not behaved like a good friend. Then he will forgive your sins – not because of anything you have done, but only because that he paid the price for your sin.
Keep your life free from love of money, and be content with what you have, for he has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.”Hebrews 13:5 (ESV)
